Coincidence, or is the Great Blue Diamond becoming commonplace?
NEW YORK (AP) — A blue diamond ring that child star-turned-diplomat Shirley Temple wore for decades is going up for auction.
Sotheby’s says the 9.54-carat ring, value estimated at over $25 million is the star offering among numerous lots in the “Magnificent Jewels” auction scheduled for April 19 in New York.
The cushion-cut stone was acquired in 1940 for $7,210. The child star, immensely popular in movies of the 1930s, known for her bouncy and outgoing personality, treasured and constantly wore the ring. As Shirley Temple Black, later, after a long career in public service, she died in February 2014 at the age of 85. The ring is being sold in its original platinum and diamond setting, and a gold setting Temple had made for it will be included as well.

A 10.10-carat blue diamond, considered to be the largest of its kind ever to be auctioned, is expected to reach a bid of around $30-35 million in Hong Kong next month.
The 10.10 carat oval, flawless internally,
intricate vivid blue diamond was part of the Millennium Jewels collection, presented by De Beers in 2000 to commemorate the millennium, and displayed at London’s Millennium Dome.

The stone unveiled recently in London will embark on a tour of Geneva, Singapore, Taipei and Hong Kong before being put under the hammer at the Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale in April.
